My home town:The Bike Path -in custody A Cheektowaga man is in custody and expected to be charged right away with at least one of three murders tied to the Bike Path . The suspect is identified as Altemio Sanchez, 48, of Allendale Road in Cheektowaga. Cheektowaga and Amherst Police are currently at his house on Allendale Road off Century near the Cheektowaga/Buffalo border. Sanchez is a husband and father of two. Officials say a break in the case came ten days ago when three different groups working on the case all came to the same conclusion. Sanchez has been under surveillance ever since. At an afternoon news briefing, police say they have obtained a DNA sample from Sanchez and have a 100% match with evidence obtained from the three homicides. Sanchez had been arrested twice before, back in 1991 and 1999; both times for allegedly patronizing a . Members of the Buffalo police, state police, Erie County Sheriff, Amherst police and Cheektowaga police have been involved in the investigation. The Bike Path has been in the news recently after Joan Diver, a mother of four from Clarence was murdered in September and DNA tests later tied her murder to the Bike Path . He's also the prime suspect in the death of U.B. student Linda Yalem while she was jogging along the Ellicott Creek bike path back September 1990 and of May Jane Mazur whose body was found strangled and left on Exchange Street in Buffalo in November 1992. This even made Natinal Television AND was a HIGHLIGHT in AMERICA'S MOST WANTED...Here's the clip from AMW~For 20 years detectives in Buffalo, NY have been hunting for a predator. They think his name might be "Dave," they know what his blood type is and they even know his genetic make-up. What they don't know is who he is. The man has been dubbed the Bike Path because many of his attacks have occured on bike paths in Buffalo and surrounding communities. From 1986 to 1994 women in Buffalo lived in fear of this predator. He always attacked women and teenagers walking alone. In an eight year span the Buffalo Bike Path nine women and killed two of them. Linda Yalem, was a sophomore at the Unversity of Buffalo when she was killed on Septmber 29, 1990. Majane Mazur left behind a five year-old when she was killed in 1992. Then after one more attack in 1994, the attacks stopped. Until this year. On September 29- 16 years to the day after he killed Linda Yalem- the Bike Path struck again. Joan Diver, a stay-at-home mother of four was found murdered alongside a bike path. The Bike Path -now a serial killer-was back. With each haunting attack, detectives have been able to find out more about this serial and murderer. Now detectives are hoping that AMW viewers can help them solve this case. The Attacks Detectives say that the is very patient and waits for the right time to attack, rather than the right victim. He attacks his victims from behind and strangles them with a rope or a wire. Several times he strangled his victims until they were unconscious and then he dragged them into wooded areas where he them. The Bike Path also uses strips of duct-tape and white medical adhesive to tape his victim's eyes, noses and mouths shut. All ten of the attacks have occurred in the morning between May and October on every day except Sunday. All ten of the attacks have occurred on weekday mornings between May and October. Police: We Know So Much The Bike Path left DNA at nearly all of the crime scenes so police have been able to find out a lot about him. His blood type is O. He is a white man with Native American ties. Between 1992 and 1994 he lost the ability to produce sperm, either through a vasectomy or a medical condition. Police also know a lot about the the Bike Path from what victims have been able to tell him. He once said that his name was "Dave" and that he had just gotten out of jail for and killing a woman. The suspect has worn different types of clothing in his attacks, including a gray jogging suit, blue jeans, a red t-shirt and a blue flannel shirt- jacket. He has also carried a duffel bag and worn a fanny pack. Police think that the Bike Path may have had medical or military training. See...You NEVER, EVER know where a sicko like this can be....especially when it comes to any woman or , especially of your own! I'm scared to death to let my anywhere now!!!!  |

I know the fear. We recently found out there is a convicted sex offender living two houses away from us. His offense was not involving children at all, but it's pretty damn scary nonetheless! If you should die before me, ask if you can bring a friend........

Do you have any children? Younger children or women youre close to in your family? Even friends? Its a scarey thought. If anything even remotely like that ever happened to my daughter (my #1) I'd automatically freak out, go into panic mode....and search high and low 24/7. My life would never be the same. So, "Yikes" is an understatement.

You cant keep the poor kid confined to the inside of the house. Arent you scared? Thats all it takes is one split second and wham! He'll be gone. I'm not trying to put a scare in you but I'd keep a very close eye on the guy AND anyone who comes to his house to visit. Be cautious! When things like this happens to any child (especially a child) I do not take it lightly. Most normal people dont. I'd be scared shitless!!!

Oh no, J~ You dont ever wanna put me and a gun and a fruitcake like that together. Its dangerous! Besides, he wouldnt even stand a chance!!! lol Ya know what? In a sense, I feel a little safe knowing he is downtown right now being questioned (he has been since very early this morning) but the police have not made an arrest yet. Can you believe that? They've been interrogating him all day long. They have the DNA matched with his 100%....what more do they freakin need?

Another thing.... Who's to say that its not ONLY just him involved in this? You mean to tell me that he's married and his wife never seen any change in his attitude or she never seen him to appear nervous about anything or paranoid? He was court ordered a few years ago to surrender all firearms (his guns he had a permit for) due to one of his past convictions (ie: the prositutes). He never did! The was absolutely no record on file (which is inexcusable) in the county of Erie where he resides that he surrendered them. The police got suspicious when they questioned him at his home a few weeks ago. That was their first lead. From what I saw on the news today, the way they found his DNA and were able to compare it to the "serial /serial killer" was by old fashioned police work-in their words. They took samples off of the utensils from a restaurant he ate at. (His glass he drank out of and the forks, knives and spoons he ate off of)....his saliva! Personally, I hope they fry him!

This is where an "eye for an eye" comes into play- and then some. 50 years is simply NOT long enough. He strangled these women and young girls (teenagers) with some kind of wire as he came up and snuck them from behind- and them AFTER he strangled them! defenseless- never knowing it was coming. How sick is that???? These women had families and young children of their own they had to leave behind. There's not enough "Justice" in the world for something like that.

Steamy, a lot of women will sleep better tonight knowing this sick animal is in custody. I hope this man gets the death penalty too, but knowing our DA he will seek life without parole in which case he will be sent to ATTICA.

Yes, everything you said is so true...it makes my stomache turn. He'll have his 3 hots and a cot but that will never make up for what these women and families have lost.Their lives! What I wonder is...what was he REALLY thinking in that twisted mind of his every time he watched the news and saw this story, saw the one girl being interviewed that survived his attempt a few years back, and when America's Most Wanted was on? OR~ what was he thinking every time someone talked about it or brought it up in front of him when he had everyone 'juiced' to thinking he was so much of a "family man" and involved in the community so much? Makes me wanna choke him myself.

We've pointed out the house, and he's even seen the guy sitting on his porch once, so he knows who he needs to avoid. But I'm still not letting him out of my sight. It might be a little inconvenient for me, but I'd rather be inconvenienced than having to worry. But even that says something. He's six. When I was six, I was allowed outside myself anytime I wanted to be. And we lived on the East Side back then!! I could even walk to my friend's house two blocks away. And it's not like I'm seventy now. It's amazing how much things can change in a single generation. If you should die before me, ask if you can bring a friend........

OMG! First, let me say that I am so sorry to hear about your son. That must be hard to watch your own child go through anything like that. My heart goes out to you and your son. Your family too. I do know there is way too many of those sickos in jail. They need to be neutered- not only in jail. Call me prejudice in that pretense... I remember years ago, when right before my dad became leuitenant there, we (my sisters/brothers) all begged my dad to go for a 'tour' of the prison. He totally kept telling us no because thats nowhere he wants to bring children to. (thats back when we were all younger) The inmates literally throw their own "yuckies" at you, their urine, spit- you name it. I can only imagine what else they do, especially the ones in for life.

Yeah, it is a little too close for comfort. He is in jail for it now. I watched the news earlier as they updated his interrogation from all day yesterday and all day today and the police finally made an arrest but the "maggot" still wont admit or confess to anything. He does remain in the holding center downtown Buffalo without bail though! Its gonna be a long drawn out process before the judge finally renders his decision due to this going back the past 20 years. He's done this crap too many times and the ones from the early part of the 20 years, the satue of limitations ....its way too long for it. Its run out. So, I think some of those charges (if fought, and is being fought by one of the victims brothers) might be brought to the surface again under the circumstances. This guy isnt just sick...hes demented. Kinda reminds me of someone else here....so familiar. lol (hes just not all there upstairs)

ok i agree..then hang him slowley..and make him suffer a slow death. i could mention alot more nasty things..but i am a civil person. here's one thing..i hope to god they dont release him in 3 years. our crazy system has let animals out before. on a liter note..how are you sweetie!!!

There has been an update on the case too. I found out what really cracked the case wide open is when his own uncle narked on him from one of his murders and he committed back in the 80's. Why he didnt come clean about all of it til now, I dont know. Probably because his uncle is scared shitless because the "murderer and " used his uncles car back then when the crime was committed at the time. Hes scared its all gonna come back on him now. Serves him right! On a lighter note: I'm good!

I don't have any children of my own, but I have a niece and some cousins her age. I would never want anything to happen to them. I am glad they got that animal off the streets. They need to get him a fitting cell mate. A big guy named Bubba. I would love to send Bubba a t-shirt that says "Pay back's a bitch, and now you're mine"
