I Took the Pledge
I Took the Pledge Today on Oprah, she was talking about her no phone zone pledge. The premise is to make people aware of how dangerous it is to talk, or text while driving. I thought it was giving out a very good message. Even though it is common sense, as humans we usually have to have everything fall around us before we get it. I dont want my getting in an accident (or myself) because someone was NOT paying attention. This goes both ways. If it takes some talk, a poster or two or an ad to save lives, then I support the message. We did this with alcohol (still doing that one) and with seat belts. Now its time for the message about the cell phones. On Oprahs page she has more info and comments if anyone is interested. And, yes I signed her pledge. So today I told my if they call me when Im driving, they will have to wait until I am off the road. I always take their calls asap and will continue, EXCEPT when in the car. She broke your throne, she cut your hair, and from your lips she drew the Halleluljah. -Cohen |

Texting or even talking on the phone is dangerous. Usually when I see a car weaving on the road, if I pass the car? Either they are on the phone or eating something; maybe even pickin' their nose. young kids that live to text. They need to take driving seriously. I like her show for the same reasons. She is informative and has had many shows like you mentioned, that enlighten and make people aware. Bringing these things to public awareness is a good journalist responsibility. I will miss it and hope she has some great plans up her sleeve. You have every right to feel passionate on this subject. When something makes a change to our lives, we dont toss it off lightly. Im sorry you had to go through all that. One of the biggest problems is the fucked up laws. So many drunk drivers are back on the road again and again in a short time. I also hold judges accountable as they have the power of decision towards the sentence. So I have no faith in this jurisdiction in getting the message out. People will still drink and drive and people will be injured and/or die. She broke your throne, she cut your hair, and from your lips she drew the Halleluljah. -Cohen

I didn't say there weren't any accidents. I said the laws banning their usage did not DECREASE the number of accidents, not like the lawmakers assumed they would. I would post the link but don't think I can from Local Sexy Swingers. Google "autoblog laws banning hand-held phones do not reduce crashes". The study was done by a Highway Data Institution and Ford Motor Company. Ford's information was also provided with partnership with Volvo (which is partially why they bought Volvo in the first place; at the time of purchase, Volvo was the safest manufacturer on the planet). The problem really has very little to do with using cellphones and more-so the fact that most Americans really can't drive for shit. That in conjunction with cell usage is the major issue. People just don't pay attention, whether it's to yell at their kids in the backseat, turning the knobs on the radio, sipping coffee, putting on make-up...I could go on and on with the things I see daily. Just this past Saturday, it was snowing on my way back home from the DMV (ironically) and I witnessed an accident. The woman was in a minivan and I could see her fiddling with something. She kept looking down. Sure enough, traffic stopped, she wasn't paying attention and tried to stomp on the brakes (again, in the snow), and slid right into this older gent's fairly new car. Her rear-end stepped out, moving the front-end into another lane and she side-swiped another girl in her car. My dad used to tell me, you can't just drive for yourself out there; you have to drive for the idiots on the road too. It's scary out there sometimes. -M on your back, especially in a car. lol My point was addressing one issue that does contribute to accidents by taking our eyes off the road. This is something we have control over and can make a choice to NOT fuck around with phones, kids, pets, flying dildos (lol) blow jobs or anything that takes our eyes and attention away from what we are in the car for....DRIVING!!!! Thank you for adding your information!!! Hugs!!!! She broke your throne, she cut your hair, and from your lips she drew the Halleluljah. -Cohen

That sounds horrible. So many drunks still driiving out there. I agree there should be some hefty fine. Why will you miss her show? She broke your throne, she cut your hair, and from your lips she drew the Halleluljah. -Cohen

A recent study showed that the laws banning phone calls had absolutely no effect on the accident rates. As in, quite literally, zero. Ford Motor Company, however, found that texting increased the likelihood of an accident (IIRC) 200%, even for something as short as "i luv u". And Oprah is the devil... -M but I have seen enough accidents on tv with cell related causes. You dont have to like Oprah to realize that this made sense. Don't shoot the messenger hon!!
