End of This Chapter
End of This Chapter Why does working in mental health have to bring so much damn drama?! Oh yeah, that's what I was trained for! Wanted to follow up to let everyone know that my employer did not handle my resignation very well. As custom in certain business practices and with Kansas being an "at will" state, I was informed that effective immediately, I am no longer employed by this agency. I was escorted to my office this morning by my supervisor and the human resource director where they proceeded to help me pack all of my things. I'm not sad about being let go. I do have some serious concerns about the manner in which they handled my resignation. For instance, did they stop to think about proper -therapist termination of a therapeutic relationship for the 160 on my caseload? Specific concerns are poor quality of care my will receive with inability to terminate the therapeutic relationship. It is my opinion this move was to prevent loss of revenue associated with who choose to leave the agency. To place business over a 's health astounds me! With a significant shortage of therapists at my agency and in my area, it does not make sense that they would run the risk of jeopardizing a 's mental well-being or even their life as some on my caseload are a high risk for suicide over money of all things! I did get the last word in. I filed complaints with the licensing department that monitors mental health center practices and also with my state regulatory board to cover my ass in the event they try to say I "abandoned" my . I hope they get a hefty fine or some serious sanctions for their ethical mistreatment of . Here's hoping I can enjoy my 3 week paid vacation! Problem is the person I want to spend it with is on vacation right now! |

What a mess! Sorry babe, at least they didn't find a way to screw you out of your vacation – some place will try! The hospital in far NW Kansas where my son used to work was doing that when laying folks off, Most we too stupid to complain so they were actually getting away with it! (He quit, for unrelated reasons, and got all this vacation paid.) Damn, while its fucked up its not surprising! Money is the modern master and "mere" humans slaves to it! I know a lot about the mechanics of Money, I once worked in quantitative finance, but more importantly is that I know Game Theory, and it ALL boils down to a little game theory (GT)! I hope you covered all your bases, its why I mentioned GT, it never hurts to know it! It is The Art of Strategy, that's also a head title of a very great book on the subject. Greater Than The Sum Of My Constituent Parts!

Kindly see it as approaching the end of a tunnel. Once you pass the threshold, the expanses of possibility will spread out before you like a thanksgiving feast presented by the Gods. I had a feeling this is how it would go... them pushing you out, or you pulling out before they were ready. If you want some company... I can be there in short order. I realize I'm not "that guy".

While moving on can be bittersweet as you exit, leaving as you did is just bitter... Hope the sweet comes to you on day 1 in your new practice, if not throughout your vacation. Truly sounds as though your former employer is doing quite well to ensure others follow in your steps... Congrats to you!

Did they terminate you after you gave them your notice? If you did than it would appear you are entitled to your two weeks pay. Years ago my daughter was an assistant to the CFO for Circuit City and when she handed in her notice, because of the sensitive data she worked with, they immediately assigned a security guard to her as she cleaned out her desk. It was not hostile and it was expected. They cut her a check for her vacation time and the two weeks. Interesting thing is that in her exit interview with HR she told them she did not think the company was keeping up with the times and if they continued the way they were doing business they were in trouble. Well they were out of business within a year. Your former company seems to be lining themselves up for some rough times.

I kind of figured thats what they'd do. It's SO typical. Good for you on the filings. CYA always when dealing with them. They do show their true colors. The almighty $$$ speaks, patients and everyone else be damned! Good luck to you and have a great vaca! -tm
