ARE A LOT OF COPS OUT OF CONTROL?
ARE A LOT OF COPS OUT OF CONTROL?

In a couple of days I need to drive the 25 mile round trip into town to pay a bill in cash. I drive old cars. Both my truck, and my small car are 1978 models I bought new, in '78. They're both in good shape, have never been in any accident, and don't have many miles on either one. I get them repaired when they need it, and I don't see any reason to throw a lot of money into some new car I can't do simple things on by myself.

I'm also an old asshole white guy with a little scruff of a white beard... A year ago I passed once again the California driver's test and got my driver's license renewed for another five years.. I've been driving cars since I was 13, and got my first driver's license in Atlanta, Georgia. I carry more than the California law requires of liability insurance, so everything I do while driving is up to code.

When I go out on the highway in one of my old cars, everything is legal and on the up and up..... so..why does Marisol always say, "If you get stopped, just do what the cop wants and keep your mouth closed, don't go giving any of those guys a reason to mess you up...OK?"

Well, I AM argumentative and contrary once in awhile. And... I AM so burned dark from going nude in the sun for so many years on the desert I look more Indian, or Hispanic than German/English. But...I never thought I'd live to see the day in this country that I would feel a tightening in my belly everytime a sheriff's patrol car or a California Highway Patrol car happened to get in back of my car.

I mentioned this to Marisol, and she said, "Just be thankful you're not a black guy, or someone who doesn't speak as well as you do." Marisol, is Apache Indian.

So tomorrow or the next day when I take that 25 mile round trip into town to pay a bill in cash, I WILL be extra concerned about getting stopped by a rogue sheriff's deputy or Highway Patrol Officer..

I wonder if this is what we've now come down to in our country....Do any of you guys feel a similar concern about getting stopped by a cop, and what can escalate out of control by just some simple movement, or attitude from a cop who's out of control?

 Yes they are Sgt. I was a unit M.P. in the 1st Battle Group, 18th Infantry, stationed in Mannheim, Germany what seems like a hundred years ago, so I agree with you....Marisol and I just agree to disagree, and she believes that some cops have too much testosterone and not enough brains... dave

Thanks for your comment Lookin.. I agree with the fact that it must be a pretty scary thing to pull a car over and not know what, or whom lurks inside...

Sometimes those who are professional thieves and other lawbreakers, seem to be hardwired to live a life of breaking laws.. It seems they work harder at their way of life than they would at getting a good education and then a job where they can hold their heads up.

 I also don't believe that the cops are out of control .....contrary to what the news reports glorifying these random situations ...and what most people fail to see is that there is a certain percentage of the population that has decided they don't have to respect the authorities ( Police ) such as not pulling over for a traffic stop , fleeing on foot and on and on ...The plain simple truth is IF YOU AREN'T DOING ANYTHING WRONG WHY DO YOU TRY TO RUN ......... My suggestion to everyone try being a cop for one day and actually see how these people cause things to escalate .....and things have only gotten worse since (thanks to the govt and local laws ) people can carry guns now ! Remember this There is 360 million people in America and there safety is dependent on a single digit Police force .I would say they are doing one hell of a job
