Carthage

Built on a promontory, near Lake Tunis,
Qart hadast in the tongue of our ancestors-
Your people will call my city-state Carthage.
Remember the day I first saw you, clomping down our punica pavement,
The mosaics grounded with red mortar? Remember the moment you first laid eyes on me,
Tyrian-hued robes- their folds abundantly voluptuous…
Mica flecks dancing across a resin of ox blood,
Tracing the edge of my persimmon-stained eyelids, your blanched fingertips…
Clasping my certitudes, the sink of both weighty wrists, bronze cuffs made with Iberian tin.
Remember how our faces were lit up from within, we spoke in reverent tones.
We recognized ourselves without a busy mirror?
No Sibyl of rolling lisps and hissing spittle; a simple transaction. It was just like that.
Standing beside stiff bronze oil lamps, their light charging up the promenade…
Oh take me away my love, press me like raisins into wine, and drink me up,
Consume me, fire in your belly never quenching your thirst-
Conspired our mortal baggage on a caravan bound for Persia,
Let us not regret the day I begged you to call me Alissar,
Let me one last time placate myself, my eyes on your face the foreign profile,
Let me one last time adore your visage plagued with Aegean scars.
You are my elixir of frankincense, of coriander, of myrtle…
Oh you darling, you flavoring in a dust-mouth world, my ever always alabaster salt.
My unfurling peacock- shrill and arrogant- triumphant without refusal,
My most heavy-hearted, my cruelest, my most precious ebony wood…
Yours are the holiest words accompanied by the best lyre player,
Yours are the most profane; a hyena in heat does snap and bite as harsh- yet
I have taken them, each little voice, crushed them…transcribed them…
Like your loyal slave girl, I have dug with my ragged fingertips in the rocky soil-
No man will happen upon these lover’s vows, our crèche of stelae.
I have spoken. I called it out from the heights of our citadel Byrsa.
And perhaps one day some ragtag spirit-bard will plod on about me:
“Rise up from my bones, avenging spirit,”
But until that day, let’s be here and now, Aeneas.
I’d call the oarsmen and the coxswains to banish my cremated remains and
Say regally with a nod- to you- wrap my limp-poisoned,
Pagan digits in amber from Scandinavia…you know I would.
But until that day, make me one last ember-flamed embrace-
Cleanse me of my mortality.
Do this. Before you seek to judge these limbs, cherish them- please, please, oh my love…
Do not sail far off the sands of my shores, craggy beacons lost in the glamour of the northern coast,
Do this. Before you invoke like an Acolyte my people’s sacred rites,
Please, please, oh my love- build for me, oh my love a foundation to birth a creosote-lavished tower;
Chart for me, oh my love, the flight of the grey and glowing serpent-bird,
As she spirals and coils- ever after into eternity.

What do you have planned? I mean, now that I know you too root for team Carthage...it's like we're chums from way back, right?

hmm. There is not much slack, as I am a very tight package. If you are patient, and diligent, you may be able to eventually work your way in. Wiggle room? Yeah, but, it's not exactly a 'ballpark.'

Ah...if Hannibal had only known what to do with a victory once he had achieved one.

As for the tight package. I'm a carpenter by trade. My instinct is to just grab a pry bar and get after it, but I'll try some of this patience and diligence stuff you speak of.

    Lol...you don't say.

So, how long does my newbie grace period last? How much slack are we talking, ballpark figure? Or did it just expire?

Well, yeah. You are new so I cut you slack but for the rest of the heathen perverts who read this blog and/or hit on me.

Listen up. I keep trying to tell you people

I'm SUBMISSIVE. SUB- MISS- IVE. (HEHEHE see?)

MT (not trying to confuse, but since I'm apparently an Alpha female, it seems most men see me as dominate...go figure?)

Just such longing in this one, MT. She is in love with her conqueror? I'm starting to see a common theme.

"But until that day, let’s be here and now, Aeneas."

    Just amen to that.

On a side note: I always root for Carthage when I look at the Punic Wars, even though I know how it ends.
