I thought what was done to the Native Americans was genocide, not terrorism, but few others will even use that word in writing our history. I will never romanticize War (my draft status is 1-A) but that which the troops endured...that is different-for me anyway CSA is the abbreviation for Confederate States Army, USA is the United States Army, history rewriters have muddied the waters there too... I too was born in a blue state, one of the largest most liberal, and possibly one of the first that will fail... But I migrated to a different land, a place of serenity and beauty of both land and people...and have come to love this place... Yes, you brought up a lot of what was and still is wrong with this country, yet, when you look down through the layers to the basics and the simpler things, the Good people are there, and what this whole experiment was supposed to be is there, it is just so messed with that it is burried under all the floatsm. And, yes, one day I would welcome a good bantering session between us...It would be both eyeopening for me and hopefully enjoyable (for all). I would welcome that, but keep in mind I prefer my blog to focus on positive concepts and sexuality within the realm of history. You know what I mean? And, I am not into conflict in any mode- this includes discourse. I've even gone so far as to avoid a chat room I enjoy, when a conflict was brewing, for about a month. MT

Native Americans would staunchly disagree with the terrorism remarks. And, feel free to say what you want on my blog, I don't believe in censorship but- I absolutely am not attempting to romanticize this (OR ANY) war. Or to evoke a new CSA. I don't believe in a divided Union. I am, as you so aptly pointed out, a Yankee. Further, I have relatives who were from the South and that did not do my family any kind of service. They were thrown out of their home, forced to move to Oklahoma and Kentucky from their home state of Georgia- because yes, I am part Cherokee as well as being a Yankee. Now, you have not said anything to offend me, but I believe glamorizing the CSA is one step from glamorizing the life of Antebellum America. And this I can not abide. Maybe for a white male of the middle to upper classes, this period brought unprecedented comforts. But for me, I'd be dead by now after having had my requisite 12 babies- or wishing it were so. You know what I mean? So please accept that my focus here is on the individuals and their interpersonal relationships, not on political ideology or the examination of US History in the context of social, economic, political, or regional concerns or discrepancies. But if you want to go there, you better be packin' buddy. Dear Duke, Yeah? What did you study? That's pretty cool. I went to art college but we had to take a range of courses. I didn't find the general ed. courses terribly challenging, with the exception of Astronomy. Lots of math in that. MT

and, not to be mean spirited but in the tradition of trying to correct the rewriting of history...the war of 1861-65 was the Second American Civil War, the war of 1775-1783 was in fact the first American Civil War It was the also the first introduction of terrorism to our soil (, murder, arson, animal mutilation...) No wonder they want to rewrite the truth And, feel free to say what you want on my blog, I don't believe in censorship but- I absolutely am not attempting to romanticize this (OR ANY) war. Did you know that the singing of Lorena was banned by many officers because the troopers would long so much for home that many would slip away during the night (only to return weeks or months later) If you like this music, take a gander at the "Homespun Songs of the CSA", especially Vol 1, by Bobby Horton and not wantin' to leave out you Yankee people, he has a number of cd's for the USA (CSA/USA stands for Confederate/United States Army) but I am biased and the songs he produced for the CSA just outshine the others, may the bonnie blue flag wave ever so gently in the warm Southern breeze and perhaps, one day, lead again

Arbor Day is for Trees. If it makes you feel things are more equitable, consider Earth Day for all the rest- soil, water, air, animals. I am such a liberal~ How can you stand me? LOL MT my point was not to deride the value of making everyone aware that conservation, yes, that is what it once was called, is the caring for our environment and it has been practiced by a very small few for a long long time. Now a days, it is politically correct to have all these nice sounding causes where the politicians give lip service to doing things that many have done all their lives. It is not the event that I have an issue with, it is the yellow-curr-dog-egg sucking politicians that I would disrespect faster than a toad tongue flicks a meal...

good group of songs...I always did like Guthrie (the father) but could only take him in short doses... I have spent a lifetime planting trees, shrubs, bushes, and flowers. (and removing unwanted ones, and using them)... Probably done more for Mother Earth than all the tree huggers put together, and yet, I strongly believe that fossil fuels can be used and should be used. Did you know that if we stop pumping crude oil out of the earth, she will slowly pump/press it out for us and we will have one hell of a huge environmental catastrophe with all the crude sitting in pools on top of the ground and floating on the waters... We already have Arbor Day, probably few know or remember that! Earth day sounds better in the press and on the lips of the politicians. Just more socialist rhetoric... One of my favorites is Arlo's "Alices Restaurant", think I will go play the long version right now, and consider the blind eye of justice and the Group W Bench...it suits my mood this morning... I am such a liberal~ How can you stand me? LOL MT

I used to get around a good bit out in the Painted Desert in an old Chevy truck that only had an AM radio. There was a local station, and I remember them playing various native songs and chants. At sunrise and sunset they had a man whose voice sounded like a thousand years of desert wind who welcomed the sun or the starts with season specific songs. Most haunting. Especially if you were trying to repair a busted tie rod by welding it back together with baling wire. The early perv gets the worm? And on that note, I better go to bed before I say something totally idiotic. MT

Aww ... haven't thought of "Caught a Lite Sneeze" in years. Good pairing. Age cannot wither her, nor custom stale Her infinite variety. Other women cloy The appetites they feed, but she makes hungry Where most she satisfies. For vilest things Become themselves in her, that the holy priests Bless her when she is riggish. ~~ from Antony & Cleopatra

I have been ungrateful And I have been unwise Restless from the cradle But now I realize It's so hard to see the rainbow Through glasses dark as these Maybe I'll be able From down on my knees Oh I am weak Oh I know I am vain Take this weight from me Let my spirit be unchained Old man swearin' at the sidewalk And I am overcome Seems that we've both forgotten Forgotten to go home Have I seen an angel Or have I seen a ghost Where's that rock of ages When you need it most It's so hard to see the rainbow Through glasses dark as these Maybe I'll be able From down on my knees "Unchained" Johnny Cash MT

Thanks, J! I am honored and blessed to also call you my great friend. And I love Kate Bush but I try here to offer the artist that maybe not everyone is familiar with to broaden the collective horizon. I'm a teacher, after all. LOL And you have been doing that for me. I'll definitely check out Kirsty and Eva. Floods have not affected me much although I take public transportation and one of the rail lines near me was partially washed clear away. So that is a drag. And not just because of the dangerous aspect, also because of the inconvenience to travelers who already have obnoxious comments, and the inevitable price tag which we can ill afford. But it must be taken care of. Have a great holiday! E

If you haven't seen Imogen's live "just for now". It's a jaw dropper. How are things going with your dirt/sod house? Did you know the folks in the Little House on the Prairie book series lived in a sod home for a time. You should go look it up. It's pretty remarkable the actually books...they are not sappy like the TV show. There are some moments of real spiritual growth, some moments of real suffering, and many wonderful historically significant/accurate descriptions. MT

"The greatest worth is self-mastery ..quality is seeking to serve others ..precept is continual awareness ..medicine is the emptiness of all ..action is not conforming with the world ..magic is transmuting passions ..wisdom is seeing deeply"
