If I picked a Chris Rea song to represent me, it would probably have to be "Set Me Free."
I was thinking of that, but Auberge always gives me a sense of freedom of heading down that open road, and that is why I chose it. I had thought about "Gone fishing". Hugs as always j xox

music that describes oneself...there is no one song.

    my list would be:

    Chris Rea - Auberge
    Cold Chisel - Rosaline
Mumford & sons - Roll away your stone
    Cat Empire - Hello
    David Grey - Babylon
Midnight oil - Scream in the blue
Ian Dury & the blockheads - Fucking Ida

Great post as always...hugs and kisses j xox
    That's a start

Age cannot wither her, nor custom stale
Her infinite variety. Other women cloy
The appetites they feed, but she makes hungry
Where most she satisfies. For vilest things
Become themselves in her, that the holy priests
Bless her when she is riggish. ~~ from Antony & Cleopatra

You know what I mean? Mr. Simple (whose anything but)?
I know. Even I’m wondering why anyone has given me access to a typewriter and the internets.

I felt the words, music and visuals that Sinead expressed on Troy were unified. The woman I was with the first afternoon we saw it together immediately considered it as an allegory to our relationship as well as reflections of that of Maude Gonne and Yeats. Dream big, be pompous.

Sometimes when the singers get put into the videos or the structure of the song, even when it is their own song, it makes the experience smaller and more difficult to relate to. Especially as Sinead was an unknown cipher at the time I thought there was plenty of space in her interpretation to allow people to ‘insert their face’ here. Neither my friend nor I look anything like Sinead, Maude or Yeats but we could imagine standing in front of a building that explodes with lust and foolish passion over someone who was probably dangerous to know. (I really do ramble, don’t I?)

I’ll put a sock in it now and go bike riding.

I had a best friend in high school. One of the nails in the coffin of our friendship (not in a good way, don’t ask) was the Video of Troy. I excitedly had him over to share it because I was instantly in love with Sinead and knew this time it was for real. As soon as he saw her covered in mud and wattle he got disgusted and almost had to leave the room. (Frankly I think the shaved head already had him on edge). I don’t need a best friend to want to bang a secret love (I don’t mind sharing fantasies but really, I can get the job done without a crew) but revulsion because a woman seems wild? I wasn’t sure what part of ‘perfect’ he didn’t understand.

And I can fuck to just about any music or no music, as long as she says ‘yes’, nods her head, blinks if the restraints are too encumbering or at least agrees not to press charges afterwards. I’m an uncomplicated date; one might almost say ‘simple’.
But what about the lyrics? Because I was not even considering videos when I answered the question. And I think to consider the video is of course to consider she herself the singer. And I wasn't doing that either. I was quite literally thinking about the lyrics and the instrumental sounds and the story of the song and how that reflected a part of my life and what I am and who I am. And my deep belief in expressing love in spite of foolishness that's evident in the expression of it.

You know what I mean? Mr. Simple (whose anything but)?

I generally listen to something kind of chill and electronic for sex.

As to what song or songs represent me, I'll have to give that some thought.

Where most she satisfies. For vilest things
Become themselves in her, that the holy priests

I am flattered, Aura. Lemme know what you think. I am betting some will appeal more than others (it's only natural.) Morphine is probably the best of the best on that list, so maybe start there!
