An interesting story in the paper about the problem of newer drivers and old cars. Seems the death rate is much higher for teens in older cars, and smaller cars. An inexperienced driver needs a bigger car with the latest safety devices such as air bags and traction control. Sadly most get hand me downs that are not as safe.

So buy teens big cars, with new tires, and the latest safety stuff, such as auto braking, blind spot detection and backup cameras... The life you save may be your .

The death rate is higher for EVERYONE driving older or smaller cars. Extra mass or the safety features found only in newer cars reduce the injury and death rates in any automobile accident.

Buying your kid a spanking new car is an express ticket to having a spoiled kid that appreciates nothing, expects everything and never learns the value of anything or how to earn what they have in life. IOW, it makes them grow up to be Democrats.

I don't think new cars make Democrats. I do think newer cars are safer and that is good for an inexperienced driver. Many rich parents buy their kids new Mercedes or BMW's. While they are safe and luxury products that seems overboard to me. I am recommending the kid get an automatic Mustang V6 as he is not a hot rod type, but will enjoy the sporty ride....

I don't like SUVs as they have extra mass but are harder to control. The extra weight makes them hard to turn, get up to speed, stop and park.
