I really hate consumerism. Especially pointless consumerism. Especially, especially goaded pointless consumerism. Black Friday was never really a thing in Canada until about 5 years ago (at least out on the West Coast) - the big deal, for some, was to go down to various places between here and Seattle, to “save” lots of money (including the cost of the trip, and the night or two which some also spent down there). However, much like the virus, it spread. First it was one Black Friday. Then a “summer” Black Friday. Now, at least one retailer has 4 Black Friday’s, one for each season. I guess they figure we are truly that Pavlovian - they ring the Black Friday bell, and we come a-runnin’, money in hand, ready to spend , spend, spend!! (where is the shoot-myself-in-the-head emoji, again?) Unfortunately, we prove them right, every fucking time, as the only reason they continue to do it is likely that it works for them. As Ms. author says, Boxing Day used to be “the thing”, here. But, it was never as bat-shit crazy as what has been going on down in the U.S., for years and years. And, I see mentions of this new, “wonderful” day in an increasing number of places, globally. As to one of your memes, the reality is, in Western society, most people are not thankful for what we have. It’s not necessarily our fault, as we have been ever-so conditioned, over several generations, to want more. And more. What do you think has helped fuel the massive economic growth over the last couple of centuries? But, as with the question which we refuse to ask in so many aspects of life as well as our species’ existence on this planet - “when is ‘enough’?” We are a long, long way away from even considering the question, never mind the answer. So, let the bat-shit crazy resume. Yet again. “Once more, with feeling, friends” … ? -- allgud69xxx Yeah ... that's right ... I went there .. Wanna msg, but can't - my Postbox blog Another way to say hi my Postbox

I never participate in the wars of Black Friday. I'm lucky this year as I have to go get x rays of my chest this afternoon.

I don't bother with Black Friday; prices are often not reduced compared to other sale occasions. The day seems less popular here than in the past.

Back in the early 90s I went to a black Friday sale. I decided then I would never do it again. These days I have very little holiday shopping to do and I can usually do it either well before the holiday or online.

I went out today and got a few pairs of pants and tops today. Got 30 percent off everything. I hate Black Friday shopping but it was a great deal at my favourite store. I got all this done in 15 minutes. So it was painless hugs V Become a blog watcher sweet_vm
