I don't understand these lyrics. Guess I'm just a simple woman.... thanks for your visit and comments today... Like the last time you wondered about a song... you made me research this one... so, I found out alot... this musician was born in South Africa... his parent moved to the US when he was a child... he found a home in Colorado... he lives on a 4 1/2 acre ranch where he plants crops including medicinal cannabis... he loves performing outdoors, including selling out "Red Rocks" amphitheater... He has written two songs including this one featuring a woman named Maria... In the first song "O' City Lights" Maria is a free spirit, addicted to morphine "the daughter of the hum of the highway..." In this song, she is a free spirit with wings and sea legs... she's a radio queen... sings along with the songs... he wants her to sing him one... she smokes... a lot... howls at the moon... she leaps out in the streets covered by newspapers... she loves the Colorado mountains... he warns her of the winter coming so that she can head to he coast... thanks for encouraging me to understand this one... I just like the four lines that I quoted at he beginning... 'cause I like the part about the songs crumbling in his pocket as if they were written on paper or oldies or classics... and he asks her to sing him one for the dark... I thought of Golden Earring's "Vanilla Queen" written long ago to immortalize Marilyn Monroe... maybe Gregory Alan felt strongly about this lady... enough to write two songs about her... food for thought... have a great Thursday!!!
