Censorship?

What do you think about censorship?

Should the things people put online on social media be censored?

Besides the self censoring that some people do are there areas of speech or video that should be censored?

Should hate speech be censored by the media provider?

Should illegal or banned types of porn be censored?

Should death threats be censored?

What about personal attacks aimed at individuals?

What do you think about the censoring of certain topics by whatever media you may be using?

Do you think people who engage in threatening other people directly through media should be prosecuted and serve jail time or get fines? I mean clear threats aimed directly at an individual.

What about when someone is making veiled threats toward an individual?

What about when someone is encouraging someone or anyone to take action on a threat they are suggesting against an individual?

Do you think it is appropriate to ban someone from their twitter account for instance or other media accounts if they are going about making threats veiled or otherwise and or general hate speech towards others directly or in general?

Do you think there should be no restrictions on any speech whatsoever where ever it is, in person or through some form of media? Even if it is someone making death threats and vile hate speech toward someone specific or toward a group of people, even if they are encouraging others to take action, even if they are offering rewards of some type to whomever takes action?

I'm sure if you look a little further down the road at the consequences of totally open "free" speech you might refine that statement.

Great Topic of Discussion. Luckily, Local Sexy Swingers is currently working very hard against Cyber Violence. They make it safer and easier for us that participate in here. I thank them for that.

People should be held accountable for what they do on or off line, is the same thing, they are doing it. they should be hold accountable. no buts about it. when they do malicious damage to others, in person or not. the damage still there. they are being malicious.

Make no mistake, there are new and stronger laws coming out about Cyber Violence. Some are already in place. some law firms are already incorporating all that to be a part of what they do.

I know very much about all that cause I myself was in that situation this year.I was a victim of cyber violence. my lawyer, she doesn't work with cyber violence, but when I brought all the evidence of my situation to her, she was determined to find someone to help. she check around with other people, we got responses from other lawyers and law firms directing us where to look. from there we found bunch of interesting things going on in regards to cyber violence. Anyhow, I am not gonna go any deeper on that matter, Don't want to bored you Haha. But there is University that has a new project in place call Cyber Violence, is a new baby program for them, They know cyber violence is real, they want to support victims of cyber violence. I first heard from them thru my lawyer. since then I been in contact with them, been working with them, cause is something that I personally would like to support myself. they are very enthusiastic and excited to support victims of online violence. They have invited me to an event that they will held in February. I will be a part of their public speakers. is very convenience cause they are maybe 30 minutes away from my house. I feel in good hands with them.

Again, we are very lucky that Local Sexy Swingers is a company that is taking cyber violence very serious, I can tell that Local Sexy Swingers is working every day on ways to protect us the members of this community. I seriously can't thank them enough for that. cause we need their support in that matter now more than ever. to some people all this could sound like a joke. but make no mistake, some will be grateful for it. you yourself reading this, might be grateful for it down the road, when you come across a crazy person that just doesn't want to stop or leave you alone. Personally I am happy and grateful that Local Sexy Swingers is NOT tolerating Cyber Bullying or Violence anymore. I applaud them for that. Yes, I know, things are not perfect here. I know that. but no place is perfect. the important thing is that is work in progress. better than before.

I appreciate your response and know quite well where it comes from and applaud you for hanging in and taking the necessary steps to get to where we are in relation to this issue here.

It's unfortunate that people can't regulate themselves but then again there are many people from all sorts of backgrounds out there that just don't understand the consequences of their actions and worse yet are the ones who do understand the consequences and continue anyways.

Generally I'm not into censorship with the exception when people are promoting abuse, hatred or violence. In these cases freedom of expression is hurting others and denying their freedoms.
Here in the UK promoting murder, racial hatred and so-called terrorism are crimes.
In both Germany and Austria denying the Holocaust is a crime. I can well understand why they have such laws given their past but I think sending Holocaust-deniers to jail creates 'martyrs' and exacerbates the original problem.
I don't know why I brought in these examples!

I can't imagine why you would come up with such an example.

But it does fit quite well.

Can you imagine if Twitter banned Trump? .. He might just hold a press conference to rant about it.

Read my diary Journal of a Taxi Driver for taxi stories and pictures of flowers and trees.

Imagine that Trump calling for a press conference with the media he says is a bunch of liars.

Good question this morning and I would have to say it's up to each individual person and what they feel should and shouldn't be censored!!!

Seduce the mind and see what a wonderful adventure the body will take you on..

Yes for the self censorship issue but for the censorship of the internet media someone or the people have to decide what is acceptable and what isn't.

I don't think that people should always be allowed to hide behind a screen name. People will tend to think twice about what they say about someone online if they have to take ownership of what they post. If you want to submit a letter to the editor of your local paper you have to give your real name and town for verification. But the online commenters can make nasty comments while hiding behind a screen name. Some people may be more circumspect in making comments if everyone will know who they are.

Please don't let me be misunderstood.

What do you think about censorship?
Private entities do and should always have the right to censor. There are times when governments should censor certain speech for public safety.

Should the things people put online on social media be censored?
That's a very broad, ambiguous statement so I'll give you an appropriately broad, ambiguous answer: sometimes.

Besides the self censoring that some people do are there areas of speech or video that should be censored?
Of course. For anyone who says "No" I would remind them of two things. First, it's illegal to yell "Fire!" in a crowded theater and if I'm in the military or in jail, there are certain types of information I am not allowed to include in my letters to home. Those are both forms of censorship.

Should hate speech be censored by the media provider?
No,for a couple of reasons. First, the freedom of speech is also the freedom to be offended, sometimes deeply offended. You want to say Blacks are apes? Have at it. You want to say women are inferior? Have at it. You want to say the federal government has too much power? Have at it. As long as you are actively inciting violence, say what you want. The other reason is that I think it's good to know is who in a society. I don't ant to see these groups driven underground.

Should illegal or banned types of porn be censored?
Well, there's often a good reason why they are illegal. Minors can't give consent, neither can our pets.

Should death threats be censored?
Death threats are illegal, can you get any more censored than that?

What about personal attacks aimed at individuals?
The world can be a shitty, cold place. Suck it up buttercup. But seriously, being personally attacked is only 50% of the problem. The response is equally important as is the mental health of the person subject to the attack. In just about every case of kids who commit suicide because they are being bullied, they have a history of fairly serious mental illness"they've been in therapy, are on medication, have complicated family lives, etc.

What do you think about the censoring of certain topics by whatever media you may be using?
If it's a private company, they generally have the right to do so. That's why it's important to consume information from multiple sources.

Do you think people who engage in threatening other people directly through media should be prosecuted and serve jail time or get fines? I mean clear threats aimed directly at an individual.
They already are, that's what stalking laws are all about. I can call you an asshole. I can say that I'm going to stand on the sidewalk outside your house. What I can't do is tell you that if I can't have you no one else can.

What about when someone is making veiled threats toward an individual?
And that's the tricky area. Most of us have thought or said or posted things in anger or frustration. When is blowing off steam a serious Field threat? Darned if I know.

I think you left out a "not" and a "who" but otherwise I agree with your responses and that it's nice to know who is who.

Do you think it is okay for the media providers to be censoring your words?
