I've attended a few meetups of various types.
Poly, Kink (Bdsm) and swinger. Some are more party like others have a 'no meat market' policy.
They're all very nice but I still see myself being terrible in the conversation topic. I constantly find myself 'stuck' with the guy in the room that is super loud or annoying or something... or maybe I find that with a lot of people?
I dunno I don't do that great in crowds (conversation wise) but I generally like the environment of hanging out with a group of people. It is taxing but it is a nice change of pace from everyday life.
Generally I just need more practice I suppose. This stuff won't just magically solve itself. And maybe or eventually I'll meet people that I just click with and we have a blast. But for now I'll just have to keep putting myself out there.
Also I much prefer the meetups that have an age restriction. The types of meetup are all fascinating in their own ways and I enjoy them all. It's refreshing the openness and topics some people will talk about. Especially some of their stories and experiences.
Unsurprisingly I'd just like to chat with a nice women. I mean just to chat cause its something I actually don't do a lot of (I'm in a male dominated work environment and similarly so for school)

I've been thinking a bit about ways to meet other open minded people for good conversation. Sure it would be nice if things could possibly go further but that isn't the main goal.
Online 'dating' is a very low success rate... you spend a lot of time even trying to get the attention of people over the loud noise of the internet. It's nearly impossible to stick out in a positive way in the ocean that is male profiles.
Unfortunately for me, I'm a bit of a introvert so I'm overly self-conscious about social settings but I still desire them. I certainly want to present myself in the best light and try very hard not to be seen as a 'creep'. We never want to be negatively labled but that's a label I really want to avoid.
Local Sexy Swingers and other dating sites and apps are great for perving (I'm looking at you Tinder) but are poor at actually finding matches.
There are meetups and I'm planning on attending some but potential anxiety and timing makes it tough. I'll jump in and report back but I'm open to suggestions or ideas or stories of how people actually started chatting with another person.

Anticipation is likely one of my greatest weaknesses. The nerves, the fantasy, the unknowing... all building towards a possible climatic moment.
When you compare that moment to the days and weeks before... does it ever hold up? It certainly can and does, but the anticipation helped make that moment too.
I still get 'nerves' all the time doing things I've done countless times before. Maybe it's cause its with someone new? Or maybe its cause I have done it countless times and hope and wish this isn't the one time I mess it up.
