Stealing To Survive: From The Swing lifestyle???

Before I go on with this topic, you should refer to this linkgroup_post 2847182], there was a theft of some money committed at a certain Edmonton club ( for the record it was not committed at Intimate Times) However, that does not mean IT, or any bar establishment is immune from any acts of crime. Lord knows IT pays a hefty insurance premium to cover ourselves from acts of crime. So to say it can happen at only one place and not another is a false preception - ask any police services or insurance company.

The bigger picture...

Why do some people feel the need to steal? This need seems to overpower any fear of being caught and going to jail. So, what drives a person to commit such a crime?

I believe there are different reasons why people steal. For some, stealing is a means of survival. Unfortunately, people lose their jobs and end up without any income, meanwhile they still need to eat and keep a roof over their heads - especially if they have a family. No matter how much they try, they can't get a job so what else are they to do? The desperation becomes too great for some so they turn to stealing.

I know when I discovered my Jeep was stolen a few years ago.....right in front of my house,I said to myself" Hmm, someone out there needs it more than I do." I know,I know, most of you would have been so mad that you would have wanted to catch the guy in the act and have your way with them, however, in my odd ball thinking...and I do mean ODD ball thinking - Dee will testify to that too - have a thought process to dumb down things a bit, or other people would refer to it as to keeping your cool in a times of crises.Thinking outside of the box...there are people in dire straits and have exhausted every avenue in failing to get some money... and then finally resorting to stealing. If someone came up to me and said that they had a huge guilt trip stealing from me and wanted to return the money - even though they needed it in the worst way to put food on the table - I would have said "cool...lets go the grocery store and fill your fridge so you and your family won't go hungry during Christmas."

But...but...

Then, there are others who would rather steal than work for their money. Whether they are too lazy to work or just don't want to take the time to learn an honest trade, they prefer to take their chances with the law. Some even hope to get caught - every thing's paid for in jail like their meals and their colored television, so why not?

Young usually start stealing out of boredom or because they're dared by their peers. Stealing means being "cool" or being accepted by the friends they hang out with. Some of them seem to get a rush from the danger of being caught. Others need to steal to support their drug habits. Their addiction forces them to get the money anyway they can, no matter what the consequences.

Whether it's shoplifting, car-jacking, or robbing a bank, people have their own reasons to steal. It may be out of desperation or just plain selfishness, but stealing is wrong no matter how you look at it. It's too bad more of our tax dollars couldn't be spent on ways to help people who need financial aid or spent on more programs to help keep our youth off the streets. Then, who knows, maybe there would be less people with a reason to steal.
